PUZZLE PIECES

After visiting 180 The Strand my art took a turn, from focusing on rule-breaking and the artist's encounter with the audience to storytelling through video and music.

I was inspired by the way Pipilotti Rist and Khalil Joseph combine footage to create a fragmented story, allowing the audience to draw their own conclusions from what they are watching.

I find this idea of inconclusive and fragmented storytelling fascinating, the artist offers ambiguous fragments of a story which the audience then has to puzzle together in order to create a story. In both these pieces and in modern video art in general video art plays a crucial role as it is the only element in the whole experience that seems to have some sort of coherence to it, being the biggest clue to the story the artist can offer to a viewer.
